Hamster in a Wheel

Run,
straight like a prairie road.
Stop only to look through the bars
that contain you.
Do not realize that you are trapped
in one square foot of saw dusty space
and tread on.

Let instinct take over,
search for your hidden source
of supplied nuts and seeds.
Stuff your little cheeks
until they are wider then your tiny body.
Shift your stash from corner to corner.
Keep it safe,
but do not realize that no scavenger
will steal you winter stock.
You are and always will be,
alone.

Furthermore,
keep on growing your fluffy winter coat,
but do not take notice
of the unchanging temperatures,
or the permanently pink sky.
Confuse your observers
with an oblivious nature
that only you can possess
and run.
